Local junior football club receive national awards from the FA

Alpha United based in Bradford have been recognised by the FA for their community work within local grassroots football and have been awarded the FA charter standard club of the year award.

They received the national award having staved off significant competition nationally, with thousands of clubs up and down the country competing for the same award.

It is the first time a team from Bradford have won this award, which is quite the achievement considering the small amount of time they have been in existence.

The club have recently added to this by receiving further recognition for their work. They have also received the volunteer award by the FA.

Alpha United are a club who started from humble beginnings, they formed because there wasn’t a club for local children to go to and play and train in the local area.

They have gone on to firmly establish themselves in the local community. The first year saw 15 children play for the team, this has since expanded rapidly up to 150 players.

The ages now range from 5 up to 15-year olds across eight teams and they are looking at expanding due to high demand.

The club is seen as an outlet to steer clear of anti-social behavior and allowing local children to use sport as a way of letting off steam in a positive manner.

Mohammed Waheed who is a volunteer at the club was rewarded for his services and won the highly coveted voulunteer award in the FA’s Respect Awards 2017 as part of their Respect campaign.

The Respect campaign was launched in 2008 with the aim of uniting the game whilst ensuring football is enjoyable, inclusive and for all.
