Nazim Ali says his fundraising efforts have now generated more than £1.6 million for charitable causes in the UK and internationally
A monthly fundraising initiative involving a Bradford restaurant and the Nazim Ali Foundation has raised more than £30,000 for charitable causes in the UK and overseas.
The Day of Giving initiative has been running at Arome, on Leeds Road, Bradford, since January 2024, with the restaurant donating the day’s takings on the last Sunday of each month.
Organisers say £30,449 has now been raised, supporting projects ranging from housing and clean water initiatives to food aid for vulnerable communities.
Funds have supported the building of homes for families in Afghanistan, Burundi and Azad Kashmir, water pumps in Sindh, Pakistan, and food assistance for refugees and communities facing poverty in countries including Lebanon, Malawi, Jordan, Egypt, Pakistan and Yemen.
Restaurant owner Hassan Zeb and his staff also forego their wages on each Day of Giving, allowing the day’s takings to be directed towards the charitable projects.
Nazim Ali BEM, founder of the Nazim Ali Foundation, praised the team and customers who have supported the initiative.
“I am grateful to Hasaan Zeb and his amazing team who take no wages at each monthly charity day of giving. They truly are selfless and are proponents of ‘giving back’ through their generous actions and are an example to other businesses of sharing their success with the most vulnerable.
“I am amazed at their generosity and that of their customers who always rally around! I am also grateful to my friend Mohammed Azeem who has supported each day of giving behind the scenes. Wow! £30,449 raised is staggering!”
Hassan Zeb said the partnership had given him confidence that money raised was reaching the intended projects.
“I am absolutely delighted to have teamed up with Nazim Ali whose work over the last 3 decades (in the UK and overseas) needs no introduction.
“Nazim has always provided feedback with all of his projects and it gives me confidence knowing every penny goes to the stated causes.
“I am also thankful to my staff who have taken the decision to forego their salary for each day of giving over the last 31 months as they too wanted to gain their share of the good deeds accumulated.
“God willing I hope to continue to support Nazim moving forwards just as I have since Jan 2024. As a popular Bradford-based business I feel it is my duty to give back to wider society, as they say, you make a living out of what you earn and a life out of what you give!”
Nazim, who was awarded the British Empire Medal in the King’s New Year Honours 2025, has spent almost three decades involved in community and humanitarian work.
His foundation’s work includes its Khidma Community Kitchen in Bradford, support for children’s wards at Bradford Royal Infirmary and Airedale Hospital, and humanitarian projects overseas.
