Police appeal for more information as man is charged with murder

A 30-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of Zabair Hussain on New Year’s Eve in Sheffield.

Idris Sadiq, of Darnall Road, Darnall, made his first appearance at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 7th January charged with the offence.

Two other men remain on bail in connection to the investigation: a 28-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder and a 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Officers continue to appeal for witnesses to the incident, which is believed to have taken place at around 11.20pm on Thursday 31st December.

Forty-one-year-old Mr Hussain was found with multiple injuries to his head and body in Staniforth Road, Darnall, and died a short time later.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Detective Chief Inspector Steve Handley confirmed investigations were still ongoing.

“The sustained and brutal assault of Mr Hussain has shocked the local community and indeed, the wider city, so I want to reassure the public that our officers are working around the clock to identify those involved,” he said.

“I’m really grateful to the members of the public and those living locally who have already come forward with some positive lines of enquiry, but we remain keen to hear from anyone else with information.

“We are especially interested in hearing from anyone who can help us trace this grey Peugeot’s movements (registration: MC57 BZP) in the days leading up to this incident.”

Also speaking at the press conference were Mr Hussain’s family and friends, who have issued the following statement: “Zabair was a much loved and caring brother, uncle and cousin and a close, lifelong friend to others. He had a big heart.

“His death so soon after the death of his brother Bobby has torn us apart and left our hearts broken. Our lives will never be the same again.

“We cannot understand why anybody would want to take his life in such a brutal and cowardly manner. His lifeless body was left in the middle of a busy road

“Zabair had lost his way in life but did not deserve to die in this way. Nobody should have to endure the way his life was taken.

“We ask that the community of Darnall assist the police in identifying the people that are responsible for this unprovoked and sustained attack.

“We ask that people have the courage to come forward and provide information either as a witness or confidentially to the police to identify, arrest and convict those that are responsible and to locate the whereabouts of or provide information as to the occupants of the grey Peugeot 307 MC57 BZP.

“We have faith in Allah subhanahu wa ta ala.”
