Communities get together in Bradford for festive fun

The Carlisle Business Centre in Bradford was packed to the rafters on Thursday 17th December when around 150 people came together to serve up hearty Christmas meals to the homeless.

The Muslim Women’s Council hosted their annual Christmas party for Curry Circle service users which coincided with their second year anniversary.

The festive event was attended by service users, faith representatives, volunteers and business owners.

The Christmas meal was sponsored by Mercure Bankfield Hotel whose staff were on-hand to provide a seamless service. Soul singer Janet Jaye was invited along to belt out some seasonal songs whilst the turkey was served up.

Manager of the Mercure Bankfield Hotel, Sandeep Kaushik, said: “Mercure Bankfield is proud to be associated with the generous and commendable work that Muslim Women’s Council is doing to promote community spirit in Bradford and Keighley.

“The Bankfield Hotel has been a part of Bradford history for the last 70 years and hopes to continue working with the community and the Muslim Women’s Council”.

Adam Raja, Curry Circle Manager, added: “The party was a great way for service users to celebrate Christmas, as well as two years of serving the less fortunate of the community, providing them with a warm friendly environment, which they may otherwise not have access to.”

The Muslim Women’s Council run the Curry Circle every Thursday from 6pm to 8pm at the Carlisle Business Centre.

The scheme was launched when staff at the Carlisle Business Centre noticed people searching through nearby bins for takeaway food.

It is an initiative that provides a hot two-course meal for people who are homeless or struggling to feed themselves. Since its launch in December 2013, the Curry Circle has provided over 10,000 meals.
