A powerful cultural revival is coming to Bradford.

LEGACY – The Event, taking place on 13th June 2025, at the iconic Majestic Hall, will shine a spotlight on the groundbreaking South Asian music scenes that shaped generations – honouring the sound, the spaces, and the spirit of the ‘Oldtimers’, ‘Daytimers’, and ‘Nighttimers’ who made it all happen.

Presented by Aswad Arts in partnership with Bradford Council, this one-of-a-kind evening celebrates Bradford’s pivotal role in the evolution of British Asian music, from underground college parties in the 1980s to club culture and global Desi sounds that continue to influence the music industry today.

Led by cultural veterans Moss Sheikh and Mick Chandsoor, with more than 60-years of combined experience in music and community work, LEGACY invites people of all ages to relive the vibe, reconnect with forgotten stories, and rediscover the roots of a movement that fused identity, resistance, and rhythm.

‘LEGACY: The Event’ has been led by cultural veterans Moss Sheikh and Mick Chandsoor, with more than 60-years of combined experience in music and community work.

In the 1980s, at a time of social unrest and racial inequality, British Asian youth in cities like Bradford created their own space through music. Dubbed “Daytimers”, these daytime club events became safe havens – places to dance, express identity, and build community.

The movement sparked an underground cultural shift, giving birth to a golden era of South Asian creativity in the UK.

While London and Birmingham often take the spotlight, Bradford carved out its own sound and scene – one that deserves to be remembered, celebrated, and passed on. LEGACY is here to do just that.

“This isn’t just nostalgia. It’s about recognising how powerful and creative those times were,” says Moss Sheikh.

“The legacy isn’t lost – it just needs to be heard again.”

Offering an immersive experience that brings together live music, film, art, and storytelling, the event features:

  • Live performances from Bhangra icons Sahara and surprise special guests
  • DJ sets spinning anthems from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s—plus modern Desi bangers
  • High-energy dhol drumming and dance showcases
  • Exclusive interviews, artist talks, and Q&A sessions with original Daytimers DJs and promoters
  • Rare archive displays featuring vintage flyers, lost instruments, classic vinyl, and memorabilia
  • Visual art installations capturing the fusion of South Asian and British youth identity
  • Food, drink & vibes, all celebrating Desi street culture
  • All proceeds from the event will go towards youth-led creative initiatives across Bradford, providing opportunities and resources to empower the next generation of talent.
