INSPIRING: Dr Sulleman Moreea welcomed to an international medical council

To some of us, eating our five-a-day, taking the stairs instead of the lift, or doing the dishes immediately after cooking dinner, is a worthy cause for applause, but one man has taken personal achievements to completely new highs.

Bradford-based doctor of Gastroenterology, Sulleman Moreea, who has the highest medal of honour Mauritius Grand Officer of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean’ from his native country (equivalent to our knighthood), has now added another international acclaim to his portfolio.

Dr Moreea has been recognised with an inaugural appointment on the International Committee of the British Society of Gastroenterologists (BSG), a leading global health society.

The BSG International Committee was set up to strengthen its work in developing countries and bring the organisation’s expertise to those less fortunate than ourselves – so combining his work in his homeland with his research here in the UK, it was a natural choice for such an accolade to go to Dr Moreea.

Dr Moreea said: “I feel very privileged to have been chosen to serve on the committee. I see this appointment as a great honour for both myself and Bradford Teaching Hospitals.”

He went on: “To be able to help other consultants set up international projects and to promote the best practice in as many developing, less well-off countries as we can, is an exciting responsibility.

“This work is an area I am very passionate about because here in the UK, we have a lot to offer to other medics across the world.”

As a member of the new BSG International Committee, Dr Moreea will join representatives from across the UK in deciding the organisation’s direction of international travel over their forthcoming three-year-tenure.
