Asda is powering ahead with its convenience store revolution – with up to 20 brand new Express stores set to open across Britain in just four weeks.
From late October, shoppers will see the supermarket giant planting its green and yellow flag in high-footfall towns, bustling city streets and commuter hubs – places where Asda has traditionally been absent.
The rollout kicks off in Castleford in early October before sweeping through locations including Tower Bridge, Greenwich, Finsbury Park, Manchester, Liverpool and Bradford’s Toller Lane.
It marks a dramatic return to standalone Express launches, building on the successful takeover and conversion of 469 Co-op and EG Group sites, which has already given the retailer a serious foothold in the £47bn convenience market.
Why Asda’s Express gamble is paying off
Far from being a token high-street presence, Asda Express stores are already outperforming the wider convenience sector – with like-for-like sales soaring 8.6% in the second quarter of 2025.
Each shop typically stocks around 3,000 products, ranging from the daily bread and milk top-up to ready-to-eat lunches and full dinner baskets. Crucially, prices are pitched significantly lower than rival corner shops and mini-market chains – something that has proved irresistible to cost-conscious families and on-the-go commuters alike.
‘Confidence in our strategy’
David Lepley, Asda’s Chief Supply Chain Officer, said: “We’re thrilled to kick off the next phase of our Express rollout and bring our heritage in delivering outstanding value to more locations across the UK.
“In just three years, we’ve grown from zero convenience stores to almost 500 by the end of the year. This continued investment reflects the confidence we have in our convenience strategy.”
Launched in 2022, Asda Express was briefly paused as the retailer focused on converting hundreds of Co-op and EG Group stores. But now, with integration complete, the supermarket is back on the offensive – and shoppers from London to Liverpool are about to feel the impact.
New locations include: Castleford, Tower Bridge, Greenwich, Limehouse Station, Harringay, Stoke, Finsbury Park, Deptford, Botley, Whetstone, Ferndown, Tottenham Hale, Crystal Palace, Deepcut, Harrow, Manchester, Liverpool, Horncastle, Wigan, Heath Hayes, Cadishead and Bradford.
