A flag in honour of International Women’s Day will be raised to mark the annual event by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Coun Geoff Reid, next week.

NEESIE, a community voluntary organisation for single mothers which provides support to help them prosper in society, has organised the event which takes place at 10am in Centenary Square on Monday 6 March.

Lord Mayor, Coun Geoff Reid, said: “I am delighted to be involved in the flag raising event to mark the start of International Women’s Day.

“There are many events taking place throughout March in celebration and I hope as many people as possible will attend this one on Monday.”

Noreen Khan, Director of NEESIE, said: “We are delighted to be raising the first flag to mark this annual occasion. We are very pleased that the Lord Mayor will be assisting us in this inaugural event.

“International Women’s Day continues to grow and NEESIE is proud to take the lead role in celebrating the achievements of women. NEESIE believes that International Women’s Day is about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action.”
