A charity has donated £100,000 to Bradford Royal Infirmary to support its paediatric services, describing the contribution as a thank you to a city which has backed its work for more than two decades.
Kashmir Orphan Relief Trust (KORT), a UK registered charity, said the donation recognised the generosity and support it had received from communities in Bradford since 2005.
For KORT, the contribution also brings that support full circle. For more than 20 years, individuals, businesses and community organisations across Bradford have helped raise money for its humanitarian work – and the charity said it now wanted to give something tangible back to the city which had stood behind it.
This time, that support will directly benefit children and families in Bradford, with the £100,000 being directed towards the Paediatric Department at Bradford Royal Infirmary.
The cheque was formally presented to Mel Pickup, chief executive, and Sajid Azeb, deputy chief executive and chief operating officer, at Bradford Royal Infirmary.
KORT founder and chairman Choudhry Mohammed Akhtar attended the presentation alongside trustees Brother Abid Hussain and Rashid Bashir.
They were joined by a number of the charity’s ambassadors, including Regal Foods chief executive Younis Chaudhry MBE, Mr Gafoor of Pakistan Catering, Mr Saleem of Jinnah Group, former Bradford lord mayor and entrepreneur Mr Shabir Hussain, and Nadeem Malik.
KORT said the donation was intended to support the hospital’s paediatric department and reflected its wider commitment to the health and wellbeing of children and future generations.
The organisation has developed a strong connection with Bradford over the past 21 years, with individuals, businesses and community organisations in the city supporting its charitable work.
KORT described the donation as a way of giving something tangible back to a community which had shown the charity “immense generosity and trust” since 2005.
In a statement, the charity thanked those who had helped make the contribution possible.
It said: “A heartfelt thank you to all our donors, supporters and well-wishers. Your continued trust and generosity make milestones like this possible and enable KORT to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.”
The charity added that the £100,000 contribution represented “more than financial support”, describing it as “a symbol of KORT’s enduring commitment to giving back to the community and supporting the health and well-being of future generations”.
KORT was established to support vulnerable children and communities and has grown considerably with the backing of donors in the UK and overseas.
The Bradford donation marks another significant investment by the organisation in community welfare – this time bringing its support directly back to the Yorkshire city which has played a major role in its fundraising journey.
