DELIGHTED: Despite a swollen ankle, Joginder was able to complete his tenth consecutive marathon in the Big Apple

Limping over the finish line after six hours of pushing through incredible pain barriers, Joginder Singh raised his hands to his head as he completed his tenth consecutive New York Marathon.

Despite running with an injury, the 64-year-old was able to complete the gruelling 26-mile run to complete his collection of 10 gold medals from the Big Apple.

“I had hurt my ankle before I set off but really wanted to run because it was my tenth time,” he said.

“After 25km,  I had to start walking. My ankle was in a lot of pain but I had to finish. That is why it took me so long this year.”

Joginder eventually passed the finish line in a time of six hours and 40 minutes.

He is now recovering at his Bradford home with a heavily swollen ankle but - more importantly for the tireless runner – he holds his 2016 finisher’s medal firmly in his hands.

“It was worth it,” he added.

At a cost of almost £2,000 a year, Joginder says he can no longer fund his annual trip to the States with his latest New York medal proving to be his last in the city.

He is now aiming to complete a number of new challenges across Europe, targeting the continent’s capital cities as well as a host of runs closer to home.

“I have spent a lot of money on the New York race over the last 10 years because I just love running,” he added.

“My new medal is my 332nd. I do not want to stop now though. I am just going to run elsewhere.”

On 12th December this year, Joginder will turn 65 – the official retirement age for men and women in the UK.

Although he may be ready to slow down in some areas of life, for jogging Joginder there are certainly no plans to be hanging up his running shoes anytime soon.
