Heart-wrenching plea to young drivers at funeral of 22-year-old Shumas Fakeer who died in car crash

“I’ve lost my younger brother”

Mourners gathered in the hundreds at Jamiyat Tabligh-ul-Islam in Victor Street, Bradford for the heart-breaking funeral of Shumas Fakeer, a 22-year-old who died in a fatal car crash.

22-year-old Shumas, a law graduate with a bright future ahead of him, tragically passed away in a horrifying car accident last month. He was the passenger.

Hundreds of people crowded the mosque on Friday 3rd March and offered their support to his relatives who are still dealing with the shock of losing the youngest member of their family.

Now Shumas’s brother, Ahmed Ali, has pleaded to drivers to think about not only their and their passenger’s safety, but to also think about other drivers and pedestrians.

Says Ahmed: “We all need to learn from this.

“I’ve lost my younger brother Shamas Fakeer and I don’t want anyone to go through what me and my family are going through.

“May Allah (swt) grant my dear brother Shumas Fakeer Jannat-ul-Firdos, Ameen.”

Shumas, of Frizinghall, Bradford, was a passenger in a blue Audi RS4 which collided with a tree and lamppost in Bradford Road, Bingley, shortly after 4 am on Sunday 26th February.

The funeral was not only an opportunity to say goodbye to Shumas, but for the Imam to warn against dangerous driving. He said: said: “Our brothers are driving high-powered, expensive cars, but that doesn’t mean in the city of Bradford we should drive them in such a way we are putting ourselves, other drivers, and pedestrians at stake.

“Shumas is not the only brother to die in these circumstances.

“Do you want to be the cause of a brother’s death? We need to not be selfish, and to think about the other people around us.”

The 24-year-old driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, along with two other men, aged 23 and 24, who were in the black Volkswagen Golf believed to have been travelling in tandem with the Audi at the time of the crash.

It is thought that the two cars travelled through Heaton and along Toller Lane, before heading into Cottingley and then Bingley, which is where the tragic accident occurred. All three of the men have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Those who knew Shumas have paid tribute to him, expressing their shock and sadness over the tragic events.

“In a real shock as to his sudden departure from this world. We've lost a very good brother, friend and family member.” Aqib Hassan (Friend)

“Words fail to express exactly how I am feeling right now. The local Frizinghall community is in absolute shock. A law graduate who had a bright future ahead - his father Haji Mohammad Fakeer is in pieces.” Adil Shaan (Relative)

A great loss – My duas are with the family of Haji Fakeer Saab. Khadim Hussain (President of JTI Victor St Mosque)

CAR CRASH: Talaina was taken to hospital with major head injuries and died two days later

A teenage girl has died two days after a horrific road crash in Rochdale on Monday 14th November.

Eighteen year old Talaina Hussain was sitting in the passenger’s front seat of a Peugeot 206 when it crashed into a wall in Rochdale on Monday evening.

The popular teenager was taken to hospital with major head injuries but lost her battle for life two days later.

Police are investigating the cause of the smash on Dewhirst Road, Syke, and are appealing for witnesses to get in contact.

In a sad twist of fate, it has come to light that Talaina was friends with Chloe Cockton, the 16-year-old who also died in a car crash in Rochdale in the summer.

Both girls went to St Cuthbert’s RC High School which has led a flood of tributes to Talaina, who was also known as Talaina Cullen.

Indian Minister dies in car crash

Just eight days after Narendra Modi was welcomed as the new Prime Minister of India, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has lost one of their top ranked allies, tasked with helping to revitalise the Indian economy.

Rural Development Minister Gopinath Munde died on Tuesday 3rd June after a road collision in New Delhi. The politician was on his way to the airport when his Sedan was hit by a car and he subsequently died from his injuries in hospital.

The 64-year-old’s body was brought to the party’s headquarters where dozens of supporters swarmed the flower-bedecked truck, with Modi laying a wreath whilst consoling the family.

“My tributes to a dynamic leader whose premature demise leaves a void hard to fill,” Modi said in a Tweet, amid a flurry of tributes from allies and political opponents. “Condolences to Munde's family. We stand by them in this hour of grief.”

India's roads are amongst the most dangerous in the world, and the capital, New Delhi, ranks near the top of cities that account for the most fatalities.

Modi had entrusted to Munde the crucial task of spearheading a battle on poverty in the countryside, home to more than half of India's population of 1.2billion, but which contributes just 14 percent of gross domestic product in Asia's third-largest economy.

The minister was sitting in the back of his Maruti SX4 sedan when it was hit on the side by a Tata Indica saloon, whose driver, police said, remained in custody. Munde's driver and a personal assistant survived.

Doctors tried to revive Munde for 50 minutes after he was taken to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences in the capital, a hospital spokesman said, adding: “There was no spontaneous breathing, no pulse, no cardiac activity.”

India is the world's capital of road deaths, thanks to a lethal brew of poor road planning, weak law enforcement, a surge in trucks and cars, and a flood of untrained drivers.

More than 230,000 people were killed on Indian roads in 2010, at a rate of almost 19 deaths per 100,000 people. As many as 15 people died in road accidents every hour in India in 2012 with 53 injured in the same period, the National Crime Records Bureau says.

Munde becomes at least the third senior Indian politician to die in a car crash in recent times. The Congress party's Rajesh Pilot, a former transport minister, was killed in 2000, and Sahib Singh Verma, a former BJP labour minister, in 2007.
