Leeds twins Lochan and Lokesh, students at The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL), are seeing double after receiving their GCSE results.
Both Lochan and Lokesh received similarly outstanding results with 19 grade 9s between them; and both will stay on at GSAL to study A-levels in maths, further maths, biology and chemistry and have aspirations to study medicine at university.
“Ever since I was in primary school, I’ve wanted to become a doctor. I’ve always been fascinated by science and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of patients,” said Lochan.
Lokesh agreed: “I’ve always loved science too – and it’s incredibly fulfilling to help people.”
Lokesh said that studying together in the run-up to exams helped keep nerves at bay. “We worked as a team to make notes, write out essays and complete lots of past papers. It saved us so much time and made the whole exam season a lot less stressful!” he said.
“Putting our two minds together definitely helped to build my confidence. It meant I always had somebody with me to strengthen my knowledge and test my understanding,” added Lochan.
Outside of their academic studies, Lochan and Lokesh share a passion for debating as well as music. Both have reached the finals of the International Competition for Young Debaters and are preparing to sit their grade 7 clarinet exam this summer.
Michael Hall, Principal at GSAL, said: “We’re so proud of what Lochan and Lokesh have achieved – yes, these incredible results, but also their commitment to the clarinet, school band and holding their own against the best debaters from all over the world. We can’t wait to see what they go on to do at sixth form.”
GSAL’s GCSE Class of 2026 includes a Yorkshire cricketer, a Team GB showjumper, two junior golfers and a Bradford City footballer. Six students had particular cause for celebration after receiving 9s – the highest possible grade – in 10 subjects. 35 students achieved grades 8 and 9 across the board.
