Police are releasing the image of a man they wish to trace in connection with a serious sexual assault in Southwark.

The offence happened at around 00:20hrs on Tuesday, 6 August at Cotham Street, SE17.

The victim, a woman in her 30s, was walking along Walworth Road into Larcom Street, when she noticed she was being followed.

She was then chased to Cotham Street, where the offence took place.

The victim’s cries for help alerted people in nearby houses and the suspect ran off.

Police were called and an immediate investigation launched, the victim is being supported by specialist officers.

The suspect is describe as a black, light-skinned, male, aged 30 to 40, 5ft 9ins tall and of athletic build.

Detective Inspector Sharon Steel of the Central South Command Unit, said. “Enquiries have uncovered CCTV that shows a man hanging around the area and following other women prior to this attack. We are concerned that the suspect represents a significant risk to lone women which makes it important that he is located.

“We want anyone who recognises this man, saw him hanging around the area, or who saw the attack or its aftermath to contact police immediately.

“This was a serious and terrifying assault on a lone woman and it is vital that we find the person responsible. If you have information please make contact.”
