Not such ‘excellent’ hygiene at filthy wedding venue

The owner of an upmarket wedding and events business in Bolton says any customer is welcome to inspect their kitchen after prosecution was brought forward for an alleged mouse infestation and unhygienic cooking areas.

Bolton Excellency Ltd, on Carlton Street, is being taken to court by Bolton Council.

During a visit by environmental health officers in March 2015, allegations arose that food, which had been contaminated by rodents, was being sold to customers.

Due to a lack of action to rid the site of rats, contaminated sacks of onions, rice, flour, sugar, salt, semolina and milk powder were found on the site.

A gap under the fire door, as well as a separate open drain in the main kitchen, was highlighted as the rats’ point of entry.

In reply to the charges, Excellency owner, Mohammad Jaberansari, said he would be defending the company.

“Since that time we have made changes and no longer have external caterers,” he said. “Our kitchen is open to any of our guests to inspect during live cooking.”

Director, 48-year-old Taymure Khan, of Kinloch Drive, Heaton, is being prosecuted under the Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013.

Alongside the rat infestation, the council also had concerns regarding the cleanliness of the kitchen area.

The shelves, floor coverings, cupboards, baskets and containers used to store food and spices, a food preparation machine, cutlery and crockery, were all highlighted as dirty during the inspection.

The court case was adjourned this week until 13th June.

With a 1,800 capacity, The Excellency has been opened for five years and features over 80 tonnes of imported marble and crystal chandeliers.
