Limited edition watch celebrates launch of Continental Supersports

Bentley and Breitling are introducing a striking new chronograph – the Breitling for Bentley Supersports B55 – to celebrate the launch of the new Continental Supersports: the fastest Continental ever made.

The new Continental Supersports develops a mighty 710 PS (700bhp) and 1,017 Nm (750 lb.ft.) of torque, and features unique exterior and interior styling cues. These bespoke design elements have influenced the look of the Breitling for Bentley Supersports B55.

A titanium case – inspired by the titanium exhaust option available on the Continental Supersports – provides a tactile reminder of the landmark car’s performance credentials. The lightweight case frames a dial in carbon fibre, a material featured strongly in many details of the Continental Supersports. A double-layer red-edged and lined black rubber strap completes the look.

For the first time, a Breitling for Bentley chronograph features an electronic movement. The Bentley Supersports B55 features a new version of Breitling’s in-house B55 connected calibre, which is enriched with functions tailor-made for performance-minded individuals. In addition to the lap timer and electronic tachymeter, the B55 features three additional exclusive functions.

The ‘Chrono Rally’ setting can record up to 30 rally stages, complete with the departure date, the start time and duration of each stage – as well as intermediate times for each stage – while automatically adding in any penalties incurred.

‘Chrono Race’ mode is designed for track races and enables the wearer to record the split times for each lap and calculate the average lap speed. Finally, the ‘Regularity Rally’ function (useful in competitions in which the objective is to cover a given distance in a specified time) enables the wearer to predefine target times (or intermediate times) from the total, and then check at the press of a button whether these goals are being achieved.

A specially designed Breitling app has been created in order to allow owners to store and transmit all of the data recorded via a smartphone connection.

The connected chronograph features two ultra-legible LCD screens equipped with a backlighting system that can be activated by pressing the crown or by simply tilting the wrist.

Only 500 will be produced in this special Breitling for Bentley limited edition.

With top speed of 209-mph the Continental Supersports becomes Bentley’s fastest production

Bentley has just announced its fastest and most powerful production model to date: the new Bentley Continental Supersports.

Generating 700-hp  with a top speed of 209 mph (336 km/h) and a 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds (0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds) makes the new Bentley Continental Supersportsthe world’s fastest and most powerful luxury four-seat car.

Similarly, its soft-top sibling, the Continental Supersports Convertible, is the fastest four-seat convertible in the world, despatching the sprint to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds (0-100 km/h in 3.9 secs) on its way to a 205 mph (330 km/h) top speed.

Bentley’s mighty W12 engine, redeveloped for the Supersports with new high-performance turbos and engine hardware, and a torque vectoring system make it powerful. Meanwhile, unique styling cues inside and out give the new model a sharpened athletic appearance highlighting its performance potential.

As well as offering supercar pace and a highly focused driving experience, there is no compromise in the refined nature of the Continental’s ride quality. This fusion of extremes in luxury and performance make the Supersports the ultimate iteration of a model that has come to define and dominate the grand touring genre.

Stand-Out Performance

A bespoke drivetrain featuring Bentley’s W12 engine combines extreme power and torque to offer exhilarating performance.

Key to the Supersports’ additional outputs are newly designed, higher-capacity turbochargers and a revised charge-air cooling system, which create more boost and additional power. In order to harness these additional outputs, upgrades have also been made to the Continental’s cranktrain, including new main and conrod bearings.

These extensive engine revisions result in an increase of 80 PS (79 bhp) and 217 Nm (160 lb.ft.) over the 2009 Supersports model – a 10 percent power-to-weight and 25 percent torque-to-weight ratio improvement. The top speed rises by five miles per hour (and the 0-60 mph time drops by 0.3 seconds).

The Supersports also benefits from a new torque converter, which locks up faster allowing the car to make best use of the enhanced torque figure of 1,017 Nm (750 lb. ft.), and accelerate from standstill even more rapidly.

In order to rein in this immense performance the new Supersports is fitted with high-performance carbon ceramic brakes with enhanced cooling. The brake discs are the largest of their type in the world, providing excellent performance with minimal fade under extreme conditions.

The brakes sit behind lightweight 21” forged alloy wheels, together offering a 20 kg weight saving in unsprung mass. A further 5 kg weight-saving is offered via an optional titanium exhaust system. The new Supersports is the lightest-ever iteration of the current Continental GT and lighter than the 2009 four-seat Supersports model.

Enhancing the driver experience still further, the exhaust system has been redesigned to breath more freely and provide an unmistakeable Bentley soundtrack, with down-shifts eliciting a rifle-fire crackle.

Ultimate Handling and Luxury Refinement

This performance is matchedby athletic handling. The Supersports has a specifically calibrated and updated version of the torque vectoring system first introduced on the Continental GT3-R.

This dynamic system brakes individual front and rear wheels during acceleration out of corners to increase performance, whilst maintaining full power to unbraked wheels, and brakes the inside rear wheel on turn-in to improve agility. It also has a bespoke, less intrusive stability control calibration for a more precise chassis response.

The new Supersports retains the rear-biased torque split of Bentley’s all-wheel-drive system, sending 60 per cent of the engine’s power to the rear wheels as standard for a better balanced, more sporting character, but with the ability to adjust the front-rear power split depending on available traction.

Despite the focus on sharper driving dynamics, the Supersports’ lowered and stiffened dynamic suspension set-up retains all of its luxurious ride quality for passengers wishing to cover long distances in supreme comfort.

Bespoke Design Signalling High-Performance Character

The new Continental Supersports features unique exterior and interior styling cues which reflect the significant uplift in the performance capability of this pinnacle grand tourer.

Exterior changes include newly sculpted front and rear bumper designs incorporating a carbon-fibre splitter and diffuser respectively, new side sill extensions and bonnet vents also finished in carbon-fibre, gloss-black front wing vents and a new gloss-black, rifled exhaust tailpipe design. Completing the  dramatic exterior look are dark-tint headlamps and tail-lamps, and a complement of black-finished brightware to the front grilles, lights, rear bumper, door handles and window surrounds.

There is also an optional, aerodynamically balanced rear spoiler and front splitter combination for the coupe, new Supersports badging, a new black and bright-machined finish for the 21” forged alloy wheels and optional side decals. Further highlighting the enhanced performance, an optional gloss-finished, Supersports-branded carbon-fibre engine cover can be specified.

The new Continental Supersports Convertible offers the luxury and refinement of a coupé yet transforms into a head-turning open-tourer at the touch of a button. The multi-layer hood ensures high levels of refinement and acoustic insulation. Exhaustively tested in all conditions from -30°C to +50°C or more, it resists even monsoon-force rain and maintains comfortable, draft-free warmth even on the coldest days.

Another practical feature, the neck warmer, makes open air driving an appealing and comfortable prospect even on the cooler days of spring and autumn. With the hood down, the Continental Supersports Convertible offers sensational performance with the sensory amplification of open-air motoring. Hood up, it’s as practical a year-round proposition as its coupé stablemate.

Inside, a host of bespoke styling details enhance the contemporary British luxury experience.

A unique colour split has been created, using three colours: the first tri-tone interior offered in this generation Continental GT. A new diamond-quilted design is incorporated in the seats and door side panels for a unique signature in Alcantara, while chequered Supersports carbon-fibre fascia panels join the existing list of ten veneers and technical finishes available. The interior is completed by new Supersports emblem stitching, and a bespoke Supersports steering wheel and  unique gearlever, both featuring Alcantara accents.

A titanium exhaust option is available for drivers seeking a more intense audible experience. As well as a stirring soundtrack, the Titanium system also provides a weight reduction.

For Supersports customers seeking even more personalisation, an ‘X Specification’ pack is available, consisting of eight unique duo-tone paint treatments and carbon-fibre door mirrors and heel plates. The titanium exhaust option is included, as is a carbon-fibre finish to the interior side panels, the carbon-fibre engine cover and a gloss black finish to the 21” forged wheels.

As with all Bentleys, the Supersports can also be handed over to the highly skilled craftspeople at Mulliner, Bentley’s bespoke coachbuilding department, who will respond to individual customer requirements.

Diesel powered Bentley

bentley-bentayga-2-800x533

Bentley has revealed its first-ever diesel car – the Bentayga diesel.

Powered by a triple-charged 4.0-litre V8 diesel engine, the Bentayga produces 429bhp and 900Nm torque. This allows it to reach 62mph in just 4.8 seconds and means it can hit a top speed of 168mph.

This means that the Bentayga takes the title of the world’s fastest diesel-powered SUV.

However, despite the performance on offer, the Bentayga Diesel emits the lowest amount of CO2 of any Bentley, at 210g/km. It also has an impressive range of 612 miles.

Inside, the Bentayga Diesel is still a true Bentley. Hand-selected veneers are used throughout the cabin, with each produced by Bentley’s craftsmen.

bentley-bentayga-main-800x534

The Bentayga's interior still bears classic Bentley hallmarks. Owners have the option of having the Mulliner hamper set, which comes with a refrigerator, china cutlery and crystal glass, as well as a storage compartment for dry items. Sections of the hamper can then be removed and used as seats. This, of course, comes at an additional cost.

A bespoke Mulliner Tourbillion by Breitling clock can also be specified. This is crafted from solid gold, and is wound by a mechanism fitted inside the car. This, however, commands a £150,000 premium.
Deliveries in Europe for the Bentayaga Diesel are due to commence the early part of next year.

Bentley Grand Convertible

Bentley Grand Convertible

Bentley Grand Convertible – the ultimate British luxury car?

The ultimate expression of British automotive luxury is imagined with the Bentley Grand Convertible, the most sophisticated open-top car ever created by Bentley.

Iconic yet understated in style and fashioned entirely by hand from the very finest materials, this unrivalled flagship of luxury represents the ultimate in powerful, sensuous roofless motoring.

Resplendent in Sequin Blue, originally a bespoke colour created from a single sequin from a customer's haute couture gown, the Grand Convertible features a silver "liquid metal" finish to the bonnet and windscreen frame.

Contrasting the rich blue body work is the Bentley directional wheel design, handed to the left and right sides of the car and finished by hand before being polished to a high shine.

The wheels hint at the enormous power and torque that wait under the bonnet. With 537 PS (530 bhp / 395 kW) and 1,100 Nm (811 lb.ft) of torque from Bentley's legendary 6¾-litre twin-turbo V8 engine of the flagship Mulsanne, the Grand Convertible promises the luxury of effortless performance to match its unparalleled style.

As cossetting as it is breath-taking, the interior of the Grand Convertible is a showcase for the abilities of Bentley's master craftsmen. Fourteen naturally tanned leather hides are merged together with progressive-diamond quilting, with the shape of the pattern changing over the seats and doors in a cabin sized for four adults.

Bright blue is used to highlight the extraordinary skill of Bentley's trim specialists, with Sequin Blue thread cross-stitched by hand through the linen-coloured leather. The light hide is contrasted by the sleek elegance of Beluga leather around the top of the doors and extending back to the rear tonneau, framed in polished chrome.

The tonneau itself provides the most significant example of Bentley craftsmanship at its finest. Replete with book-matched, mirror-finished and dark-stained Burr Walnut, the tonneau features the largest piece of wood veneer ever applied to a Bentley.

Fashioned entirely by hand, this expanse of veneer is only paralleled by the creations of the world's best furniture makers, and is finished with elegant parallel lines of chromed steel.

Bentley Chairman and CEO, Wolfgang Dürheimer commented: "This concept demonstrates Bentley's ability to create a pinnacle convertible Grand Tourer, while embodying elegance beyond compare.

“With this car we combine the opulent Mulsanne experience with the full sensory indulgence of open-air touring, continuing to unite luxury and performance in new ways.

“We are eagerly awaiting the response of our customers to this car. We will ensure that this car - if it reaches the roads - will be a highly exclusive, extremely limited collector's piece."

Naughty but nice…

With motoring journalists claiming that this is the best Bentley Continental yet, with minor tweaks, it has actually transformed the GT into a far more exciting and rewarding car to drive.

The Continental GT remains a top choice for Bentley lovers as a well-heeled, striking-looking, mostly bespoke, exceedingly comfortable two-door sport coupe.

Hand-built in Crewe, England, the recently refreshed GT and its more powerful GT Speed sibling are just about guaranteed to get their drivers pole position at any valet.

POWER: The V8 Bentley Continental GT Sport delivers 521 bhp

POWER: The V8 Bentley Continental GT Sport delivers 521 bhp

The base Coupe is offered with two powertrain options: a 500-horsepower 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 or a 567-horsepower 6.0-liter twin-turbo W-12.

Where around 65% of Bentley Continental GT buyers would opt for the ‘bigger is better’ mindset and go with the 6.0-litre W12 model rather than the newer, more efficient. But that could change with the arrival of the new V8 S model.

The V8 S Bentley Continental GT lifts performance of the 8-cylinder car to pretty much the same level of the flagship 12-cylinder version, but adds more sporting intent.

Bentley has upped the power of the twin-turbo V8 by 21bhp to 521bhp, so the 0-62mph time drops from 5.0seconds to a W12 matching 4.7 seconds, while top speed rises from 187mph to 191mph. The stats may not seem jaw-droppingly quicker, but it’s the manner in which the S goes about its business that makes this yet another brilliant new Bentley.

As well as the increase in power, torque is up to 680Nm, while the car sits 10mm lower on a chassis tweaked for greater agility, with steering adjusted for greater feel.

Visual tweaks are subtle with a black composite front splitter, side skirts and rear diffuser, gloss black for the grille and a V8 S badge on the front wing.

Spending an extra £9000 on the GT gives a worthwhile aural thrill as it delivers a very confident roar under full acceleration that will have you scouring the landscape for tunnels just to hear the noise echo back at you.

The standard four-wheel drive provides immense security with huge reserves of grip, while the revised steering is more responsive than ever.

This isn’t a car with the reactions of a Porsche 911 Turbo, but certainly is fit for everyday driving with a hint of naughtiness when needs be.
