Tributes are pouring in following the passing of the ‘inspirational’ former councillor Zaheer Khan.

The father of three, who served as the representative for the Small Heath ward, passed away at the age of 46 after a courageous battle with leukaemia.

Messages of sympathy poured in on Wednesday 17th April from political allies, friends, and colleagues for the ‘Labour Legend’ who will be deeply missed.

Majid Mahmood, Cabinet member for Environment and representative of Bromford and Hodge Hill ward, shared his sadness, saying, “I am saddened by the passing of former @BhamCityCouncil Cllr Haji Zaheer Khan. A devoted family man with three children, he dedicated his life to serving the community and upholding the law, serving as a true inspiration. May Allah SWT grant Zaheer the highest place in paradise and provide his family with strength. Ameen.”

Jess Phillips, Labour MP for Yardley, expressed her sorrow, saying, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of my friend Zaheer. He and his family have always meant the world to me, consistently kind and welcoming. As a Yardley Labour legend, we will miss him dearly.”

Sharon Thompson, Deputy Leader at Birmingham City Council, shared her condolences, stating, “My thoughts are with the family of former council colleague Zaheer Khan. I am saddened to hear of his passing. He fought bravely against illness, and may he now rest in peace. My heartfelt condolences go out to his close family and friends during this difficult time.”

Birmingham Council Leader John Cotton also expressed his sadness, tweeting, “It is with sadness that I learned of the passing of former @BhamCityCouncil Cllr Zaheer Khan. My thoughts are with his family and friends during this challenging time.”

Candice Homles added, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of my friend Zaheer. His warmth and kindness meant everything to me. As a Yardley Labour legend, his absence will be profoundly felt. My thoughts are with his family during this trying period.”
