Heart of Stone has finally dropped on Netflix and has you can imagine, the anticipating with this being Alia Bhatt’s Hollywood debut. Starring alongside Gal Gadot, she has stepped out her comfort zone and has taken on a role that completely blindsides the audience.

The movie follows Rachel Stone (played by Gadot) has she takes on dangerous mission to protect a mysterious artificial intelligence system known as “The Heart”. Stone is tasked by the peacekeeping operation known as Charter to keep the object safe from falling into enemy hands.

What Tom Harper (the director) does wonderfully is use Gadot and Bhatt as a representation of yin and yang: something bad in the good and something good in the bad. The best thing is that we don’t know who is good or bad. He also subverts audiences’ expectations by having the two leads female, as opposed to, a male character in a spy thriller.

Speaking of subverting audience expectations, Jamie Dornan can be seen as somewhat the sidekick, where audiences would mostly expect a woman. This is great since he can be seen as the lone wolf and his motivations (hidden or otherwise) drive the plot forward.

Heart of Stone is a film that you do not expect at all and keeps you on the edge of your seats.
