The internet has been on fire with clashing opinions this week after Starbucks, a global coffee chain, has been accused of promoting Islam.

On Tuesday 1st November, the company revealed that their latest Starbucks cup will be green.

The special edition cup, created by Seattle-based graphic designer Shogo Ota, features a design with dozens of unique figures and faces chatting with their cups of coffee, drawn with one single line.

The company says it’s meant to be a ‘symbol of unity’, and to encourage us to ‘be good to each other’.

Starbucks’ latest holiday cup is being compared with the colours of the Arab league flag and many have criticised the coffee giant online, including former Ukip leadership candidate, Raheem Kassam.

Raheem said to his followers: “Last year I joked that next year would see the Starbucks cups adopt a green (colour of Islam) theme. At least I thought I was joking...”

Many online users suggested a boycott, blaming the company of ‘political brainwashing’.

@RadioAnna said: “Starbucks, screw you. My coffee should not (and does not) come with political brainwashing.”

Former Congressman Joe Walsh said on Twitter: “Quit pushing unity and diversity down my throat. Quit with the politics. Just give me a cup of coffee.”
