New CCTV footage is ‘clearest image yet’ of suspect

Detectives investigating the attempted murder and serious sexual assault of a woman in Leeds have released a further CCTV clip of the man involved as their investigations continue.

The victim, an 18-year-old woman, was attacked by the man as she waited at a bus stop in Beeston Road, near to the junction with Tempest Road, at about 10.50pm on Friday 6th March.

She was dragged from the bus stop into a nearby garden and struck over the head numerous times with a large stone before being seriously sexually assaulted. She received serious head injuries and a fractured hip.

Earlier this week, investigators released footage that showed the suspect walking past the Tesco Express store in Burley Road at the junction of Westfield Terrace at about 9.45pm on the night of the attack.

The additional CCTV images show the man further up Burley Road just shortly before.

Detective Superintendent Nick Wallen, of West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “This latest footage gives the clearest image yet of the man’s facial features and we hope someone will recognise him from it.

“We have received a number of calls in response to yesterday’s media appeal but clearly we’ve not yet had the crucial one that gives us this man’s identity.

“We are convinced that someone out there will know who he is and we urgently need to hear from them.

“The CCTV clips, the e-fit image, the distinctive walk or limp all paint a very distinctive picture of this man

“We believe he is of Pakistani or Middle Eastern appearance, aged in his early twenties, slim with receding hair. He was wearing a green Puma hooded top with a large logo on the front, dark coloured jeans with faded areas on the thighs, white trainers and a dark coloured bomber jacket with a hood.

“I want people focus on these various elements and let us know if they match anyone they may have seen in the area or if they fit with any suspicions they have about someone they know.

“We are continuing to conduct extensive enquiries to identify this man and we remain determined to find him and bring him to justice.”
