JAILED: Tahira Nelson-Warburton

A woman has been jailed for five years after a sawn-off shotgun was found by officers in her bedroom wardrobe.

Tahira Nelson-Warburton, 27, of Strathdon Drive, Wandsworth was sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to cause fear or violence.

Earlier in August this year, officers from Trident’s South Proactive Team executed a warrant at an address on Strathdon Drive in Wandsworth.

During the search of a wardrobe in the bedroom of Nelson-Warburton’s home, officers located a rucksack which contained a sawn-off shotgun and a quantity of ammunition, wrapped in clothing.

During a further search of the bedroom, officers found a makeup bag in a chest of drawers which contained more ammunition. A large quantity of cash was also found.

Nelson-Warburton who was at the address when the search was carried out was arrested and subsequently charged on Friday 5th August.

It is believed that Nelson-Warburton was apparently holding the gun for another person.

Detective Constable Martin Reader, of the Trident and Area Crime Command, said: “We will continue to target anyone who is storing a gun, or helping to hide them from the police as this conviction shows.

“Gun crime has a devastating affect on communities and families. Anyone found to be involved in the storing or use of lethal firearms will face a significant custodial sentence.”

A 21-year-old woman who was arrested as part of the investigation was released with no further action.
