Former ‘Dream Girl” slammed for comments following young  actress’s suicide

Days after television star Pratyusha Banerjee killed herself, Bollywood actress Hema Malini tweeted something that set social media lashing out at her.

24-year-old Pratyusha Banerjee, India’s television star allegedly committed suicide at her Kandivali home on Friday, 1st April. She had been planning to wed her boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh in the coming weeks, but sources say she had become “extremely depressed” in their relationship.

Hema Malini, on the matter of young people committing suicide tweeted just days after Pratyusha’s death: “All these senseless suicides which achieve nothing! Life is God’s gift for us to live not for us to take at will. We have no right to do that”.

She also tweeted: “One must learn to overcome all odds and emerge successful, not succumb under pressure and give up easily. The world admires a fighter not a loser”.

These tweets were more than enough to send the Twitteraties into a vengeful frenzy and soon Hema Malini faced a heavy dose of criticism for her harsh comments on Pratyusha Banerjee’s death.

Many pointed out that those who have committed suicide are often victims of depression, physical assault, and mental health issues.

One person on Twitter commented to Hema Malini: “You just lost all my respect. It is because of stoic elders like you, young minds in the country have mental health issues.”

Another person wrote: “What you said is absolutely right but your choice of words is absolutely wrong. You should show some empathy.”

Pratyusha was best know for her break-out role in the drama series ‘Balika Vadhu’, where she starred as Anandi Shivraj Shekhar from 2010 to 2013.

The starlet had first appeared on the Indian version of ‘Big Brother’ – ‘Big Boss’, the Indian version of Big Brother before working on TV series ‘Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya’ in 2014.
