Before taking to the stage, the theatrical slang of ‘break a leg’ is said for good luck.

The Voice UK’s latest stand-out contestant, Faheem Ashraf, took that advice literally and suffered from a fracture whilst celebrating in a Bradford nightclub, just hours after millions watched him win his vocal battle against Londoner Aaron Hill.

Faheem told the Asian Express: “Winning the battle was absolutely phenomenal. You only dream of these things happening, especially when you’ve been trying for so long. You think it will never happen.

“To be up such an amazing singer like Aaron on an incredible platform – to go through victorious is just what you dream about.”

Following an incident at Circle nightclub in his hometown of Yorkshire, the 22-year-old required surgery to his right leg which is now in a cast.

After the showed aired on BBC, he posted a picture of himself on Facebook, dressed in a snappy white shirt, a dove grey waistcoat and tailored trousers for a family celebration.

He said: “I’m now at my sister’s engagement party, I WON I WON I WON!!!!

“Heading to Circle in Bradford to celebrate some more. If you see me make sure you come say Hi!”

Yesterday afternoon, he revealed on the social media site that he had suffered from a broken leg.

Whilst recuperating in a hospital bed, he snapped a photo of his right leg in a cast and wrote: “So last night I was invited to Circle as VIP.

“Now I’m in hospital and just come out of surgery, with pins and screws in my leg and out of action for a couple of months.

“I’ve just come out of surgery and don’t really want to say anything as I will be talking to the police.

“Nobody knows anything about this yet, not even my agent. It’s just happened at the worst time in the world for me.

“I was so happy winning, then I’m in surgery.”

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed an incident was being investigated, saying: “At 10.25am this morning a report was received of a disturbance which occurred around 3.15am [in the] morning at the Circle nightclub, Great Horton Road, Bradford.

“One of the people involved has received treatment at Bradford Royal Infirmary for non life-threatening injuries. Inquiries are ongoing.”
