City Runs prepare to overtake Bradford streets

The annual Bradford City Runs return to the city next month for a third time as fundraisers are once again urged to lace up their running shoes for charity.

This year, the Plastic Surgery and Burns Research Unit (PSBRU), based at the University of Bradford, has been selected as the charity of choice with thousands hoped to be raised for the cause.

Available in a choice of three distances – 5km, 10km or half-marathon, alongside a special kid’s run of approximately one mile, all are welcome to take part in the run, starting and finishing around City Park.

Among the hundreds who have already put their name down are the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Cllr Joanne Dodds, Bradford Council's new Chief Executive, Kersten England, and teams from local companies, organisations and running clubs.

Cllr Dodds said: “I’ve taken part in the Bradford City Runs for many years and always enjoy it.

“It’s always a great day for both runners and supporters and is once again raising money for a great cause.

“This year it is 30 years since the Bradford City fire disaster, so it is especially significant that the [PSBRU] has been chosen as this year’s charity.”

The PSBRU was set up after the tragic Bradford City fire and continues to explore groundbreaking treatment techniques for burns sufferers.

Mr Ajay L Mahajan, Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Director of PSBRU, said he was ‘delighted’ to see the charity selected by the organisers.
