‘It is more than a screen it is an experience’

A whole new cinema experience arrived in Leeds this week as the city welcomed its first IMAX theatre.

Vue cinema, on Kirkstall Road, officially launched the new screen earlier this week with a VIP screening of Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, before it opened to the public on Thursday 30th July.

With a wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling screen measuring 50 feet wide by 27 feet high, the impressive theatre can cater for 197 film fans at once.

34 VIP seats have also been installed alongside 12 luxury recliners – providing an even more magnificent setting for your IMAX experience.

Boasting the most innovative and technologically advanced equipment available in cinema today, Robert Parker, general manager at the Kirkstall Road site, says cinema goers can expect something completely new in the city thanks to their latest venture.

“We’ve already done a couple of test screenings and it really is an amazing experience,” he said.

“Leeds is the third largest city in the UK and it deserves to have an IMAX. I am really proud to be able to say it is here at our Vue cinema.

“The whole process has taken just six weeks and it now looks and feels fantastic.”

Every IMAX auditorium is custom-designed to bring the audience closer to the action, regardless of where they are sitting.

Noises can be pinpointed to different areas of the room whilst colours are up to 60 per cent brighter, and at 40 per cent better contrast than your standard screen.

Ben Caunter, senior director of marketing at IMAX added: “We don’t tend to refer to IMAX as a ‘screen’, but rather it is more of an experience.

“As much as you see the difference in the quality of the film, you feel it too through our patented sound system.”
