A mother of two from Bingley has been training intensely over the winter months as she prepares to tackle the Bradford runs to raise money for a cause close to her heart.
Shalini Cameron, 31, trains three times a week in preparation for the 10 kilometre challenge which will be raising money for Epilepsy Action – a charity which raises funds and awareness for epilepsy.
Mrs Cameron has a number of close friends who suffer from the condition which affects approximately one in a hundred people in the UK.
The runs will be staged in the city for the seventh time in March with more than 1,500 runners expected to turn up on the day.
For the Bingley resident, it will be just the second time she has completed the course yet explains why this year’s run will be even more special.
“I have seen what it is like first hand for people who may be struggling with epilepsy,” she said. “It can be a very debilitating condition and affects people’s lives more than many know.
“My friend has had episodes in front of me in the past and is not allowed to drive because of the condition. It might not seem a big hindrance but it can be when it comes to things like looking for a job, as travel is obviously limited.
“I will be doing the run in a couple of months for my friend as they do help motivate me on.”
The fitness fan has been in training throughout the past year and is eager to ‘give the run another go’ in 2014.
“It was actually my friend, who suffers from epilepsy, that actually got me involved last time in 2009 and I will be doing it again this year for them.
“Nowadays I am doing 10k, two or three times a week, and I just love it. I recorded a time of 50 minutes last time I completed the run and this year I know it will be tough to match that but I will try.
“Anything under an hour really will be an accomplishment for me.”
