PATH Yorkshire… Futures in the Making
Almost 30 years ago PATH Yorkshire was established in the heart of Leeds as a Positive Action Training organisation to address the under-representation of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities in the workforce.
Fast forward to the present day and now PATH Yorkshire is a leader in the field of providing career opportunities, guidance and support for BAME.
Through a number of schemes, including Work-based Training, Internships and Pre-Apprenticeships in different fields of work and profession, PATH has become a lifeline for many local residents who just need help entering the job market.
The registered charity creates vacancies and runs recruitments for different companies and organisations in order to provide a ‘foot in the door’ opportunity for the unemployed BAME in the Yorkshire region.
Those who join the PATH Programmes gain practical skills at the workplace, develop their potential to accomplish their career goals, and become more confident in their abilities to compete in the labour market.
Feedback for the programmes is fantastic with 85% of trainees from the Mainstream programme achieving employment last year, whilst 83% from the Pre-Apprenticeship Programme, and 63% from the Volunteering Work Experience, had similar success.
Kiran Hussain, one local resident who benefited from the programme said: “I would say that PATH is one of the best places to be because they help you to find a job very quickly regardless of what your qualifications are.”
Fellow attendee, Denise Kambane, added: “I have had a great experience overall. I have built up confidence, knowledge and skills to go forth and become what I want to be.
“I am grateful to PATH and my mentor for giving me the opportunity to be part of this traineeship programme. The skills I have learnt are not only for now but I will use them as I progress through my career.”
In addition, PATH Yorkshire also runs FREE accredited English Language (ESOL) classes for women (Eligibility criteria apply) with more information available by contacting the charity directly.
