Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s (YCCC) Gurman Randhawa has been rewarded for his impressive displays in their academy with a call up to the England U19 squad.
The 18-year-old from Huddersfield has yet to make an appearance for Yorkshire’s first team but has impressed personnel at the club.
Randhawa, who is a left-arm spin bowler, was named YCCC Academy Player of the Year in 2009 and 2010.
The young cricketer has recently pledged his future to the YCCC by signing his first professional contract with the club.
The England Cricket Board (ECB) announced the 17-man England U19 squad for the tour of Sri Lanka by confirming Somerset’s Lewis Gregory as captain for the four week tour.
Tim Boon, England Development Programme head coach, said: “We have selected a balanced squad with a combination of players with U19 and first class experience as well as younger players. This tour provides an excellent opportunity for the players to test themselves in different conditions and against tough opposition and develop many of the skills needed to thrive in international cricket.”
