FUNDRAISING: The Village Newsagent owner Tariq Qadeer with his collection box

A local newsagent in Bramhope, Leeds, has been very busy raising money for the victims of the Pakistan floods by using posters, leaflets and a collection tin.
The shop has so far raised over £1,508 in just three weeks, which has left their collection tin to bursting point on numerous occasions.
Owner of The Village Newsagent Tariq Qadeer, 42, has been encouraging his customers and local residents to give what ever they can to help the people of Pakistan.
His fundraising campaign has been very successful and has completely smashed his original target.
Tariq said: “I first started doing fundraising events about three years ago, for some smaller appeals. But after I saw the devastating effects of the floods in Pakistan, I decided that this would be my main fundraising effort.
“I have been delighted and plesantly surprised by the generosity of our local residents.
“My target was to raise £500 but then we went over and then continued to break our targets.
“People have been coming in to the store just to donate and we have even received money from people sending letters to us.
“I put up a sign in the window to show how much money we have raised so far and to boast about how well we have all done.”
Tariq has also raised money for various causes over the last few years by running marathons, his latest one being the Leeds Half Marathon 2010. He is hoping to get over 15 people from his area to run the marathon with him next year.
