Adil Ray plays self-appointed community leader
Renowned breakfast radio presenter stars in televisions new show ‘Bellamy’s People’

Breakfast show presenter Adil Ray is to star in a new comedy series written by comedy legends Paul Whitehouse and Charlie Higson,

Famous for a number of television favourites including The Fast Show, their latest project ‘Bellamy’s People’ follows hapless radio host Gary Bellamy as he meets the people of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

His journey sees him meet a colourful collection of wonderful characters, including self appointed community leader Mr Khan, Birmingham based DJ MC Raa, and the enlightening Guru Dev Gattacharjiya, all of who are played by Adil.

The show, which reunites Paul and Charlie after a decade apart, contains footage of real reactions from the public.

Adil commented: “Some of my friends who know me well enough will probably see me smirk in one or two scenes. Because it was improvised, it was very hard not to laugh. And it’s great that members of the public agreed to be in it. Those ‘What on Earth is going on?’ reactions are just brilliant”

Beginning his radio career on pirate radio whilst he studied marketing at the University of Huddersfield, Adil has worked at numerous stations and had a career spanning over a decade. After expressing an interest in comedy, Adil waited a year and a half before he was asked to meet with Paul and Charlie to discuss potential characters for the show.

He said: “It was amazing when I was asked. I had been brought up with the catchphrases which inspired things on the radio show. I had heard nothing but good stuff about them and it all turned out to be true.”

‘Bellamy’s People’ is an eight-part series, and began on Thursday 21st January.
