A woman gave birth to a 7.7 pounds baby girl with two heads in northern India last week.

The conjoined twins born at JK Hindu Hospital on 13th March, share everything below their two separate heads.

The mother Urmila Sharma, 28, says that they couldn’t afford an ultrasound and had no idea she was carrying conjoined twins.

“We only came to know she was carrying conjoined twins after an ultrasound two weeks ago but it was too late to do anything by then,” said Dr Shikha Malik, who delivered the baby.

The twins have ‘two heads, two necks and two spines,’ but just one body and their chances for survival are slim.

“She is presently alive and healthy,” said Dr. Ashish Sehgal, CEO of the Cygnus J.K. Hindu Hospital in Sonipat, Haryana.

Sehgal also added that a “meticulous and challenging” surgery could be the key to saving the twins' life, but the procedure can't take place until they are in stable condition.

The twins are currently in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

Press has reported that the couple and their families are ‘very distressed.’

Some conjoined twins can be separated, depending on shared organs and where they’re connected, but most are stillborn or die shortly after birth.
